Simplifying your social media is what we are all about at MyChiroBlog.com. Our system is designed to automatically post your blog posts to your facebook and twitter profiles. However, we have recently had a number of requests in regards to Linkedin. So, as we are committed to continual improvement for our systems I did a bit of investigation and found that added your blog posts to your Linkedin profile is quite easy and only takes about a minute to complete.

As the process is actually quite simple to complete I thought I would share it with you.

1. From your LinkedIn profile, navigate to “More” and then click on “Get More Applications…”.

2. From the applications page, scroll down until you see the WordPress application. Click on the icon to start the installation.

3. On the installation page, check the boxes to display the blog on both your LinkedIn homepage and on your LinkedIn profile. Click the “Add Application” button to install the application.

4. The next page is where you will enter the URL to your WordPress site.

It’s not necessary to enter the link to your RSS feed if you don’t know it, LinkedIn will detect your RSS feed from the main URL of the site. Select whether you want to display all recent posts or only the recent posts that are tagged with ‘linkedin’.

You may want to specifically control the posts that are allowed to post to LinkedIn by choosing to only allow posts that are tagged with the LinkedIn-specific tag of ‘linkedin‘. When composing posts on your site, if you would like them to post to your LinkedIn profile, then just be sure to tag them with ‘linkedin‘.

5. Verify the blog posts are feeding to your LinkedIn profile.

Go to your profile and your posts should be appearing underneath the summary of your information. That’s it. Done.

Uninstalling the application

If you ever need to stop the blog posts from posting to your LinkedIn profile, the application is easily uninstalled. All you need to do is:

Go to More, Get More Applications

Scroll to find the WordPress icon and click on it

Click on the Remove button in the bottom right next to the Update Settings button

However, the question has come up time and time again. How do I add my Facebook Business Page as my employer in my personal profile? It used to be a breeze to do this. You simply liked your business page and then edit your profile to add your employer, select your page from the drop down menu and voila.

If you are fortunate enough to have gotten this done before the new Facebook Page was released then you don’t have to worry. However, for those who got started with Facebook more recently it is a bit more involved.

Essentially, the new Facebook Page no longer allows Pages to be shown in the drop down menu as Employers.

The good news is – there is a work around.

Here is what you will need to do:

Get Firefox Mozilla Web Browser (if you don’t already have it) and install it on your computer. Click Here to download. or visit: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/

Once you have Firefox installed then you need the Firefox Web Developer Add-on. Click here to get it. or visit: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/web-developer/

You will need the ID number to your Business Page which is the number displayed in your facebook url. E.g. in this url: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vida-Sana-Quiropr%C3%A1ctica/156392643716 the Business page ID is 156392643716

Open your personal facebook account (using Firefox with Web Dev Add-on installed) then select "Edit Profile". Click on "Education and Work".

Type one letter into the "Employer" field, and select something from the drop-down list. (TRUST ME, THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP) just select anything at this point.

Then Select "Display Form Details" from the "Forms" menu on the Web Developer Add-on.

In the field labeled "<input name="employer_id">" paste in your Business Page’s ID number. DO NOT TURN OFF "DISPLAY FORM FIELDS"!!!!!

Fill out the rest of the information (‘Position", "City/Town", etc.) and select "Add Job"

Select "Display Form Details" from the Web Dev Add on again to disable it.

That should do the trick!

When you are trying to invite your friends to your new Facebook Fan page, it can be very tedious – especially if you have hundreds of friends. So here’s a simple Facebook tip that will help you to quickly select all your friends so you can invite them all at the same time.

Step 1:

Login to your facebook account and navigate to your fanpage. I typically use the search function – just start typing the name of your page and then click on the suggested page when it shows your page.

Step 2:

Click on the link to Suggest to Friends. This will open a frame into the same window that shows a list of your friends.

Step 3:

Right click on the new frame and select in the drop down menu “Open frame in new tab” or “Open frame in new window”

Step 4:

Copy the javascript below and paste it into the address bar of the new tab or window that you just opened and then hit the enter key (return key) on your keyboard.

Step 5:

Type a message to all your friends and click send invitation.

I have a video to show you exactly what I mean here:

Now you know how to easily select all your friends on Facebook. This works for your page, an event, or any other place on facebook that you can send invitations. You can use it to invite friends anywhere the friend picker window shows up!

As of 1-30-2011 this method works – specifically with Chrome and Firefox browsers (I haven’t figured out how to make it work on Internet Explorer yet). If you can’t get it to work on your end, try again. I use this method myself so if it stops working I’ll update the code – so just check back if it appears to stop working.

Click here to get Google Chrome Browser.
Click here to get Mozilla Firefox Browser.
